Last Thursday night a close family member was air lifted to a different province for emergency medical treatment. My 3 month old daughter and I went with other family members to be by her side. My daughter did not make a peep the entire way there (over 5 hours) and slept most of the way. We got to the hotel around 1am, and my poor daughter had skipped a feeding, and never cried to ask for food!!!! Poor thing! She slept through the night every night, even though we were in a hotel, away from her daddy, crib, etc. She was an angel even though we spent our days in a hospital waiting room. She fed, changed and napped in this waiting room, and still she went most days without crying at all. She only had one cranky day out of the whole week, and even so, she was easily consoled. Everyone that came in said how beautiful she was, how alert she was, and she smiled almost every time someone said something to her LOL The regulars got to know her name and called her by her name, and she would smile. Nobody could get over how good she was being, for a 13 week old! I am so proud of her. Even the way home, she pretty much slept the whole way. What a good girl. LOL
I thought I was going to be in for it last night because for the past week, she has slept in the bed with me at the hotel. But she slept in her crib and didn't cry! I was so surprised. Now today, she is adjusting to being at home. She has had me by her side constantly for the past week, except when her grandma and grandpa came over to watch her while I had a shower. So now, she whines if she can't see me.... and she didn't nap for too long today, which I was sad about, because I am exhausted and was trying to catch a nap too LOL But she is in her swing right now, having a light nap. Usually I wouldn't let her nap in her chair, but she's been so good and is trying to adjust to being home again, I decided to let her be.
A first time mom's real situations, real mess-ups, real triumphs. Motherhood. Come on in if you dare!! :D

Coffee anyone?
Well, after I wrote last, I stayed on the couch in case she got up again. At 6:30am I woke up to my husband's alarm. I crawled back into bed and didn't wake up until she woke up at 8:33am! So that's not too bad. Even so, I am very tired today. And I think she is too, because it is 10:30, and she is back in her crib. I had to go in and pick her up once so far. We'll see how it goes! I would love to have a little nap right now too, but I doubt she'll sleep more than a half an hour, and that's just a tease! So instead I am sipping on a mochachinno, that really tastes like it needs a bit more kick....
I should be cleaning up, making lunches, etc but I really don't feel like it right now! I got a lot done yesterday, so there really isn't much to do. Well, Let me rephrase that.... its not like I couldn't find a ton of stuff to do, but there isn't much that HAS to be done right now.....sure... I think I believe that....

She's been sleeping through the night for a few nights now. She usually goes down around 9 or 10pm and sleeps straight through till 7-7:30ish. So what do I decide to do? Start sleep training. She's already got half of it down, so why not. It can't be that bad. All we have to do is fight through the crying of putting her to sleep. Then she'll sleep through the night. So tonight or lastnight or whatever it is now, we decide to put her down while she is still awake, and have her learn to put herself to sleep. Up to now, she just falls asleep on us. We don't rock her, she just happens to fall asleep while we're holding her. Well, it took about an hour, but she did go to sleep. I think it was the magic bear. We have a bear that her uncle got her for Easter that lights up and sings the lullaby song. She loves it. An hour. Thats not so bad! However, at 2am, she starts whining. I know she's not hungry. That's an entirely different cry. So I wait a bit until she gets a little louder. I get up, put her soother in, and she is quiet right away. Hmm, this isn't going to be so bad. I decide to sit on the rocking chair that's in the room rather than go back to bed just yet. She started whining again a few min later, but once I saw her and goodnight, she was quiet again. This happens a few times, and after a while, I come out into the living room and browse on MSN. I was reading about criminals on facebook. This one guy logged onto facebook in the home he was robbing and didn't logg off before he left!!!! Seriously?!?! Anyways, she was doing well, so I checked on her and she was out. ahhh. Its now 2:45 and she is down. Hmm. Not too bad, I guess, although I am a little disappointed that she didn't sleep through the night, even if she didn't need a feeding. Oh well, back into bed I crawl.
3 min later....
She starts crying again, this time in btw a whine and a real cry. So I get up, pick her up, and she still is a little cranky. I changed her diaper, and put her back to bed. All is well, for about 3 min.....So I go in and kiss her on the forhead and tell her good night. 5 min later, repeat. I came out to look on the internet and maybe blog a bit. And that brings us to 3:16am.... all is well so far. I heard one squeak a few seconds ago, so she is not completely down yet.....
Part of me is thinking 'way to mess with a good thing' because she was sleeping through the night. But I guess at 3 months old, that probably wouldn't last....well, that's what I tell myself right now...... But I know it will all be worth it in the end. The sooner she learns to soothe herself, the more full night sleeps we will get.
Hmm.... she's been quiet for a bit now.... But I think I will not tempt fate and go to bed yet. Maybe I'll just crash on the couch for a bit...

Firsts so far
First time she slept through the night: March 7-8. She slept 8 hours straight! My husband woke up in the morning and asked if she had gotten up yet. I said no, and his first reaction was "um, is she breathing?" Well, then I had to check HAHA But from what I hear, almost all first time parents think that when their little ones sleep through the night for the first time....But thats ok, b/c she didn't do it again for a while!!!
First time she slept the night in her crib: March 27th. She had been staying in her bassinet in our room up until now. We really missed her when she went to her crib! It felt like she was so far away! I wasn't prepared for us to feel like that! LOL She did pretty well that night, but the next night, not so well. She kept getting up and crying. I think we got about 2 hours sleep that night! But pretty much from then on, she did pretty well. Only got up once a night.
First time she wore a dress: Easter, April 3rd. It was so cute. It was the first set of clothing that she could fit into! She is pretty small!

Some of the stupid things I've done so far....
Probably the first thing that comes to mind was when my daughter was 2 weeks old. I had to get her ready for her doctor's appointment, and I wasn't all that healed yet myself. I was exhausted, still trying to get the hang of everything. So I was making up the day's bottles ahead of time, thinking I'm doing good. I was using the vented plastic bottles at the time. They have the 45 o head to it, and they have this little plastic thing that goes in the bottom of them. Its supposed to be good for reducing gas, spit up and colic, etc. I washed them all, put the formula in each one, and then put the water in each of them. Just like a little assembly line. I turned away for some reason, and when I looked back, formula was running down the sides of my cupboards..... Turns out, I had forgotten to put the plastic thing in the bottom of the bottles, and the formula poured out of every single one of them, all over the place! Awesome when you are trying to get everything ready to go out the door!!
That same day, I had put a load of laundry on. Before I left for her appointment, I went to put the laundry in the dryer. I pulled out a blanket, and there was all of this gel kind of stuff all over it. It was so weird! I shook as much of it as I could off, but there was so much of it!!! So I pulled a towel out of the washer, and it too was full of gel......as I shook it off, the gel fell off, and a diaper fell from it. Oh yeah. I washed a diaper. I couldn't believe it. I just laughed and laughed. Between the bottles and the washing of the diaper, I was having a good start to my day LOL.
And then there was the time that I was putting her in her car seat. The car seat has a handle that can be moved forward or backward. My husband had moved the handle back and I didn't notice. I picked her up, put her in the car. Took the seat out, put her in the cart at the grocery store, and took her out of the cart before I realized that the handle was pushed back, and she was tipped too far forward LOL The poor little thing! The people at the grocery store must have thought I was an idiot! And truth be told..... I've done this twice...... :S

Wow! Its been too long since I wrote!
Well, A ton has happened since I wrote last. Not even sure where to start! I gave birth to my little girl in Jan. She is 12 weeks old now, and what an adventure it has been! I was going to let this blog go, but I decided the other day that I should be writing about all of the things she is doing. She is having so many firsts, and she is changing so fast. I should have a record of all of the things she is doing. And you? You get to laugh at the stupid mistakes I've made, and will make, as a first time mom.
So far, today is a great day! She's been sleeping through the night for almost a week now! I don't want to jinx myself though, so I expect to get up in the night, and am pleasantly surprised when I don't have to! This morning, she got up at 7:20am. I got her fed and changed, and decided to put her in her swing for a little bit while I got the laundry started, and had a bite to eat. Well, she started to whine a bit while I was eating, but that is the usual. Babies seem to have a sixth sense when it comes to the parents time to eat..... they always make a fuss!!! But she wasn't fussing too bad, so I kept eating. By the time I was done, she was asleep! So I did the dishes, two loads of laundry, swept the floors, put supper in the slow cooker, made my husband's lunch (cause he forgot to, again... LOL) etc etc and by 10:45 I was ready for my coffee. And that brings us to right now, 11:00am, and she is STILL napping in her swing! YEAH! Awww she is such a cutie. She's like a sleeping angel. Seriously, is there anything more peaceful than a sleeping baby??
