Baby girl has been healthy for a whole week now! Well, she has a runny nose, and we are now dealing with constipation, but its better than the puking and diarrhea that has been haunting her on and off for 3 weeks.....
For the past week, she has been getting up at 5-5:30am!!! I don't know what happened to my little sleeper! And she has been pretty cranky too. She is teething, but she is always teething, so I don't really think that's it. She has been making me feel like crap by only wanting her dad, and screaming if he has to leave, or if he has to hand her off to me. She doesn't cry at all when I leave, but has a fit when he leaves. She has even been fighting me when I change her diaper. But not Dad. Ugh. Makes a sleep deprived momma feel crappy :(
She finally started taking her sippy cup on sunday. She doesn't want to be without it now. She loves it. Thank goodness....
I feel really bad for what happened today. First, she actually slept in till 7! I was so happy because I worked evenings last night and didn't get home till midnight. So things started off pretty good. She ate well, etc. We played in the morning, and all was great. I changed her, and when I was done, she was playing. She looked like she had something in her mouth so I went over to see what she was munching on, and it was a pebble of POOP!! OMFG GROSS!! I don't know where she got it, it must have fallen out when I was changing her or something, I have no idea. SO grossed out. The good thing is that she didn't get much of it, because she wasn't overly impressed with the taste. OMG. Feel terrible! BUT: it gets worse.... then she was playing with the diaper cream container (like she always does). I turned away, and when I looked back, she had popped it open (no idea how) and was eating it!!!! I freaked out and said no no no no and went after it. Its really thick, so she didn't get much in her mouth, but it was hell getting it off of her face and hands, especially because she was having a temper tantrum at the same time... She threw her head on the floor and hit her forehead, then when I picked her up to get what she had't already wiped on me off of her fingers, she threw her head back and hit the table!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!!!! SOOOOOO frustrating!!!!! Oh, but it gets better.... once I finally got her cleaned up, I started reading the diaper cream label to see if I needed to take her in or anything like that (I didn't have to). While I was doing that, she was playing, so I thought. I looked up, and she was at the table grabbing my coffee (Stone cold, thank-god) and I said NONONONONO and she threw it all over the floor. She got the table, the floor, under the couch, the blanket, you name it. At this time I was kinda pissed (ok really pissed) and threw the diaper cream on the floor as I ran over to get her out of the mess. How stupid am I that I left the coffee there? I had put it down in a hurry when she was eating the diaper cream.... Thank god it was like 3 hours old and stone cold. Well, I picked her up and put her down a few feet away while I grabbed a towel and started to clean it up. I told her "Bad." as I cleaned it up! I've never done that before. She cried. And I felt (and still feel) like shit. Big, fat, stinky pile of shit. Once everything was cleaned up, I tried to make up to her. We played for a bit, and she stood infront of me and spit up all over me..... I deserve that I guess. Then she freaked when I tried to clean her up. I wasn't surprised that she spit up, I could hear it in the works all morning, and then add a little diaper cream to it.... yeah. So I got that cleaned up and played a bit more. She was really cranky so I figured it was nap time. I cuddled her up and held her for a bit. She snuggled in. So I decided to sit in the rocking chair and rock her a bit, just to reconnect with her. Well, she started crying and going on again. So I gave her a kiss and put her in her crib. She didn't go to sleep right away, but she wasn't crying either, so I let her be. I think we both needed a break! Poor thing. She is sound asleep now. I'll have to get her up soon and feed her and get her into daycare before I head to work. So yeah, after today, I think she will be wanting Dada even more....
A first time mom's real situations, real mess-ups, real triumphs. Motherhood. Come on in if you dare!! :D

The theme of 2011: Sick again.
This time she was at daycare for 1 day before she started puking. The first time she threw up (this time) she had eaten a ton for supper, and when she threw up a few hours later, it looked exactly like what it did before it went in! She didn't chew her supper at all! She had no never (although she did for the two days before), so we sent her to daycare the next day. I had been off for a week already, I really couldn't take any more time.
When she threw up the first time (again, this time), she was sleeping. That's usually when she throws up. She will wake up, cough and puke. Then scream. Lucky for us, she ALWAYS sleeps on her belly. I was so upset. Seriously, AGAIN!?!?!?! I was feeling so bad. Here I have to send her off to the cesspool of life, everyday, and I have no choice. I am sending her off to be sick EVERYDAY. Its aweful. And when she woke up around 12am puking, I cried. I'm not that type, but I was just so stressed from all of the sickness, money issues, and hubby's gram dying, going back to work, etc. All of the crap that 2011 has brought us so far. It's not been fun. Dear 2011: smarten up. Good thing you still have a good amount of time to redeem yourself. Something great better be coming our way.
So we sent her off to daycare the next day because she kept her breakfast down, and really wasn't sick in any other way. 2pm I got a call from the DC telling me she threw up and needed to be picked up. Poor girl. When I got there, she was acting fine. I took her home and she puked in the car on the way. I kept going at first because I could hear her. But then she got quiet and I reached back, touched her head, and said her name, and she didn't make a noise or move. WELL talk about trying to find a place to pull over FAST. Of course, the road I turned down had literally 5 school buses in front and beside me.... Finally, I got to someone's driveway, pulled in, jumped out and got in the back. She was covered in puke, but fine. She looked at me like WTF mom? She was sleepy, but fine. So I got her home (what a nice 30 min drive with that smell in your car....) and put her fully clothed into the bathtub. She, again, was like WTF MOM? SO I took all of her puky clothes off, my coat, my clothes, and threw them all in the bath behind her haha. Got her all bathed up and went on our way. She was fine, but then in the middle of the night (12:50am), she was puking again. It was so weird. We kept her home on friday (Hubby stayed home with her) and she was a little sleepy and a little clingy, but no fever or anything! So strange. She hasn't puked since 2am friday morning, so I think we are on the mend now, until she starts daycare next week.... UGH! This flu bug didn't hit her as hard as the last one, so I am thankful for that. However, hubby has it now, and it hit him harder than the last one. The poor guy is pretty much never sick, and he has had the stomach flu twice in two weeks! I'm the only one left standing. I have just been tired as hell. Last night I fell asleep on the couch at 9:30! I got up at 10:30 and went to bed, and slept until 7am when the cat woke the baby up. She wasn't ready to be awake for the day though, because after we fed her and changed her, she was so cranky and sucking her thumb. She was back down for a nap around 8 and still is. We were supposed to go over to a family member's house for supper and a birthday celebration, but I don't think we will be.

On the upswing!
LO is feeling much better! Yay!
We had a few more ER visits since I last wrote though... Wed, Feb 3rd she got up around 3:30am and was hungry. She hadn't been drinking her juice and I was with-holding milk so that any fluid she did get was juice or water, just to keep her hydrated. So I gave her a 5oz bottle of juice-water mixture, and she downed it. We put her back to bed and when I got her up in the morning (about 3 hours later), there was still no wet diaper. So I decided to take her into ER. We didn't have to wait too long, about a half an hour. When we explained to Dr Best what was going on, he suggested I give her a milk bottle and wait for her to pee, because she didn't look dehydrated (she really didn't). You could tell he was really thinking about the situation and weighing the pros and cons. At this point, her diarrhea was pretty much water, and she poops through a few outfits a day. When he heard that, he was leaning towards blood work and IV hydration, but he wanted to see how this went. So after waiting forever for the bottle, I gave it to her and she downed it in a few seconds, and then went to sleep. She pretty much peed right away. He came in a bit later and spoke with me, letting me know that he thinks she'll be fine and that we can go home. I was dressed for work, and I said "But she shouldn't go to daycare yet" and he said "No, no she is not ready for daycare yet. You're dressed for work, do you need a doctor's note?" I thought about it and said "No, I don't think so..." He told me to bring her back if she wasn't peeing again. I really liked him. So I called work back (I had called earlier saying I'd be late for sure) and told them I wouldn't be in, and my boss was super nice about it and was asking how the baby was, and that if I didn't like what I was hearing, to demand to see the pediatrician, etc. etc. I asked her if I needed a dr's note and she almost seemed taken back by that, and said "No, but you will if you have to miss more than 3 days, but by then you'll have her back in if thats the case. Just worry about taking care of the baby!" So I was really happy about that. She asked me to call her later on in the day if I thought I wouldn't be in on thursday. That afternoon, I called her because LO still wasn't acting like herself. She had 8 or 9 diarrhea diapers, and no pee only diapers yet... So I called her and took thursday off. Thursday was much the same. No pee only diapers, and diarrhea so bad only water was coming out of her bum... it was terrible. At one point, she was pooping and I thought there was a rainstorm on tv.... eek.
Thursday night after hubby came home, we took her in again because she was not peeing. I didn't want to take her in this time, I felt that it was going to be a waste of time, that they were just going to say feed her liquids and wait 7-10 days, and this was only day 6. Well, triage said we were fast tracked because of her symptoms and age, but we still waited over 2 hours with a cranky baby... and a cranky as hell mommy.... we got in, and it was Dr Gelo. I know how he is behind the scenes, but patients love him, so I thought ok, maybe this is ok.... but we explained the situation, and he basically ignored the fact that she wasn't peeing, and focused on the diarrhea. Then he said "well, you've been in 3 times so far, so academically, I'd do blood work." He made it sound like I was not happy with what Dr. Best had said, and that is simply not true. He also at one point asked me what I wanted him to do. Um, you're the dr, you make the $, you figure it out. UGH!!!! Anyways, he did do blood work. LO cried a bit, but not too bad considering. Then after that, he wanted her to drink some Isomil (sp?) formula, because it wouldn't be so bad on the stomach, and wouldn't irritate the diarrhea like the milk from the day before did. Well, it smells exactly like cat food, so LO didn't like it at all. Oh yeah, she had peed somewhere in the middle of all of this too....After all of this, while we were waiting for the results, LO gets extremely tired, and its past her bedtime. When she gets this tired, she SCREAMS. Seriously, its bloody murder screaming.... So away she goes, and when she stops only to take a breath to gear up for the next scream, I can hear people saying "woah!" and "There's the baby!" and "Poor thing!" Eek! She will do this until she falls asleep, and she doesn't like to sleep anywhere but the crib, carseat, or play pen at daycare, so this can take a while. So she finally went to sleep. Dr Gelo comes back in and says that her white blood cells are slightly elevated, but that's normal in this case. He talked about sending a stool sample away to see for sure what it was, but he didn't seem like he really wanted to do that. He felt strongly that it was Norwalk Virus that she picked up. But he kept asking me if I wanted to have the sample.... Again, YOU ARE THE DOCTOR. UGH. So I asked him if it would make any difference in the diagnoses, and he said no, he said "But you'd know exactly what it was that was making her sick." I finally said well I'm good if you're good, and he said he was pretty sure he knew what it was. There are a few babies in the town that have it. FIne. So he said we're just waiting on the results for the electrolytes and creatinine. That's what I was more interested in. But he took off before the results came! The nurse came in and gave them to us about an hour later. LO was still asleep and she told us we could go, everything was good. YAY!!! She said dr gelo would call in the morning. Yeah right.
So Friday, her diarrhea went WAY down and by nighttime, she was feeling much better. She only had 1 or 2 diarrheas that day, and they were thicker than the water she was pooping out the day before, so she was feeling much better. Sat and sunday she was cranky has hell, but otherwise back to normal. I will write later about why she was cranky has hell... all I can say is SIPPY CUP WARS. We are home today, only because the dr put me off until tomorrow to take care of her. Although in the dr's note, he put ME off for medical reasons.... not because my daughter was sick..... UGH. Not impressed with him. He did call on friday night just after we had her in bed. Well, he got a nurse to call, and then fired questions from the background.... After all of the questions were answered, he said that I was doing a good job. That helped a bit, but I am still not impressed with him. :D

Oh puke.
Ok, so things haven't gotten much better yet. Sunday, LO started to act sick again. Lathargic, etc. Didn't think too much of it, but kept an eye on it. Took her to daycare on monday, and was thinking of calling, but was SO busy at work, I didn't get a chance. When I went to pick her up, she had puked on the worker and was on her second fever. They didn't call me! Then she told me that LO had NOTHING to eat all day. She said that she didn't even come to the table at lunch. Um, she's 1, you have to bring her to the table..... I was really mad when I saw that they didn't even open her food or yogurt. I was ready to have her switch daycares. I took her home, and fed her the yogurt, which she ate up gladly. I was really mad then. Until.....she barfed it all up, and then some, in her highchair...... Oh dear... So when hubby came home, we decided to take her in. We didn't know if we should go to the clinic or emerge, but we decided the clinic would probably be faster. So we get her out of her car seat and are taking her into the clinic when she started puking her guts out all over the walkway infront of the door..... :S I swung her around so her mouth was facing the ground, and let her go for it. She got my sleave, her coat, and then hubby's shoulder when he picked her up. So we turned around and took her to emerge, smelling really pretty..... ICK!! But we did get in almost right away because there was hardly anyone there, and we, um, smelled...."Sour." as the nurse said.... hehe. Doc said she was a little dehydrated but not enough to put her on the IV. He told us to give her small amounts of water (2 tbsp or less) every 10-15min and bring her back in if she didn't improve in 12-24 hours. She threw up the water at first, but slept all night. I took tues off of work, and she did nothing but sleep. She didn't want to play or walk around, which is so not like my LO. We put her to bed, and she got up around 10, and again at 3:30, both times because of diarrhea. At 3:30, she drank 5 oz of water/juice mix, so when I got her up at 6 and she still didn't pee, then I thought I should bring her in to the ER again. So I did, called work and said I'd be late. Went to ER and again, thankfully, there was no one there. Doc said she is still a bit dehydrated, but not too bad. Worried him that she didn't pee, and her diarrhea was very watery, but decided against IV hydration. He sent us to the quiet room and asked the nurse to bring us a bottle of milk, and I would feed it to her and wait until she voided. Thank goodness, it didn't take her long. She voided a bit about an hour and a half after we got there. YAY! So he sent us on our way, and said if she still has diarrhea in 7-10 days, or if there is blood in the diarrhea, to bring her back, or if she gets worse. 45 min after we left, she had puked (a very small amount) and pooped twice (once right through her clothes.... in the car....)Oh the joys. She is eating better now, but is still very clingy and doesn't want to move around at all :( I would like to keep her home one more day, but I don't want to miss work either. I called work to tell them I'd be late, and then called my boss back to say that the doctor wanted me to keep her home another day. She was totally fine with it. The doctor seen I was dressed for work and asked if I needed a dr's note. I didn't think so, but wasn't sure, so I asked my boss. She seemed a bit taken back by it and said No, we just need to write something in for your time. I said oh I guess it's vacation... and she said "well" and then I said "Not a fun vacation!" haha. I've only been back to work for a few weeks, and I have needed time off every week for either: sick child, child's appointments, wakes and a funeral. Oh Puke. 2011, you suck so far!!! I hope LO gets better soon, although I have to admit, I love cuddling her and watching home design shows on tv :)
