Mother's day 2009~Where my story begins!

The night before Mother's day, we all gathered at a family member's house for supper to celebrate. Everyone was having a good time, eating, laughing, teasing, etc, the regular close family stuff. Then my brother and my uncle got on to teasing my husband and I about when we were going to start having kids. My husband and I have been together for almost 6 years, but married for only 8 months at this time. You know how it is. As soon as you get married (and in our case, long before we got married) people start expecting kids. We always had something to get done before we started trying. First it was I want to finish school. That was pretty reasonable, so they left it at that. Then when I finished school, it was we want to get married. Then, after we got married, we wanted to go on a cruise, since neither of us had been on a real vacation before. This is where my mother said "oh come on guys, you're killing me!" Haha. So we did go on the cruise in march, and it was amazing. When we got back, we decided that yes, it was time, but we didn't want to worry about "trying" so we just decided not to try not to anymore. That way there was no pressure. I've heard of people who stress themselves out so much with basal temperatures and what not, that it takes the fun out of everything, and sometimes takes much longer to get pregnant. So we decided in April, we'll just see what happens.

So back to the supper. We were getting teased, and I don't remember what exactly I had said, but I teased about my husbands "slow swimmers," so who knows when it will happen. My family is really close so this was funny to all of us, even my husband. My mom kept looking at me funny and saying "oh I don't know..." Just the way she was looking at me......

As we all left, we were giving our goodbye hugs, and my mom said "happy soon-to-be Mother's day" to my grandma, meaning that Mother's day was not until tomorrow, and my uncle joked and said "Soon-to-be Mother's day, is there something you're not telling us?" We laughed and all went our separate ways.

That night I kept thinking about all the funny coinsidences that happened that night: the way my uncle and brother started teasing us out of no where about children, the happy soon-to-be Mother's day joke, and more importantly, the way my mom was looking at me. Its like she knew something!

I had taken a pregnancy test that turned out to be negative,a few weeks earlier, because I had some symptoms. Now things may get a little specific here, so if you don't care to know, please skip to the next paragraph! I had implantation bleeding, which was very slight, and I really just thought my period was going to start, but it didn't. To tell you the truth, I had no idea what implantation bleeding was. I had stumbled across it online later when I was trying to figure out what was going on. Also, my breasts were very tender. More than just PMS, but my PMS is never the same, so I wasn't sure. But my period didn't come, and the symtoms went away. I didn't think anything of my period not coming either, as I am pretty irregular.

So the morning of Mother's day, I got up and decided to take the pregnancy test, just for fun. So I took the test, and there was only one line. "Hmph. Worst Mother's day ever!" I grumbled. As I went to throw it out, I looked at it again. Wait, there is a very faint second line. What the heck?? But its so faint, it probably doesn't mean anything. Keep in mind, I was taking a test I bought at the dollarstore. LOL I decided I didn't want to spend a ton of money on tests, that I would just take a dollarstore one until I got a positive result, then I would go and get the pricey ones. So I turned the box over and read the directions again. It said "The intensity of the second line may vary, but still indicates a positive pregnancy test." OMG. OMG. Hubby was still asleep at this point. I debated whether or not to wake him up, for about half a second. So I woke him up and told him we had to go to town. He asked why, so I told him. Well, Hello for waking up fast! LOL I have never seen this man's eyes open so fast! LOL So in to town we went. We got to the drugstore right when it opened, and as we sat in the parking lot getting ready to go in, he saw some people he knew going in. We are both pretty private people (I say this as I am writting a blog for the world to see LOL Interesting!) so I decided I would go in. The person didn't know me. So I bought the test and we rushed home to take it. As we both towered over it in the bathroom, there it was. Positive. We were pregnant!!!!!

We are both very close to my mom, so we decided we'd tell her right away. She'd be the one that I would need if I miscarried anyways. So after my husband treated me to breakfast out, we went all around town trying to find something small that said Grandma on it. You have to understand something about my mom: she has wanted to be a grandma before she was even a mom. Seriously, when she was a kid, she said she wanted to be a grandma when she grew up LOL We couldn't find anything. Being that it was Mothers day already, most things had been picked over pretty good. There were a few large statues and things like that, but we wanted something small, incase things didn't work out. We had figured at this point that we were like 4 or 5 weeks pregnant, so it was still very early. As we were shopping, my energy level was dropping rapidly, and I was getting weak, and, well, grumpy. We were at it for hours and didn't find anything. At last we decided we'd just get some scrapbooking stickers that said grandma on it, and add it to her Mother's day card we already got her. Done deal. We left the front the same, but stuck the grandma sticker over the mom and then end of the card. We brought it over, and my husband filmed her reaction on his cellphone. She read the card out loud, quietly, and when she got to the end, her lips mouthed grandma, and she stopped, her mouth dropped, and then she looked up at us and said "NO FREAKING WAY!!" She was so excited. She got up and gave me a hug and then said "this is not a joke right?" LOL I would never do that to her! She gave my husband a hug too. She was quite disappointed when I told her that she couldn't tell anyone yet, except her BF who lives in a different area than us altogether. I wouldn't even let her tell my grandma or my uncle. LOL My brother and my step father were there when mom read the card, so they knew. But other than that, we wanted to keep it quiet, just in case.

When we got home that night, we were exhausted. What a day! We couldn't beleive how fast it was really. We only stopped trying not to get pregnant a little over a month before this. Wow. Most people try for a while first, and us? Our first cycle. We are very lucky. So much for those slow swimmers huh?
